Environment Awareness has been growing in the public and this is what a new study shows. PULS, a German-based trend and market researcher conducted an online survey to find out what the public preference in the car. Having polled more than 3,500 people who have either recently purchased a car or intend to buy one in the near future. The result shows that a large number of respondents would go for hybrid vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles over gasoline or diesel power units.

The survey shows that 42.7 percent of respondents opting for a hybrid car and also said that hybrid cars are the cars of the future. Hybrid car got the most votes from the U.S., where the Toyota Prius, already making waves in the market and increasing its buyer base. 50.9 percent of U.S. respondents said they're going to go hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) on any other type of vehicle. Meanwhile, 46.9 percent of French respondents also said they would opt for a hybrid vehicle. The improvement in the Toyota Prius and Honda's development of its hybrid car is bound to increase public interest in such vehicles.

Taking second place in the online survey is that vehicles with fuel cell technology hydrogen for 41.9 percent of respondents chose it. This alternative form of fuel used in vehicles has received the most votes of China, where more than half of respondents see a future where fuel cell vehicles powered by hydrogen will be the rule of the roads. India's public too are the hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles the way forward in the future. The result of the survey in these Asian countries, contradicts the common belief that they are satisfied only by the use of traditional fuels.

Other alternative fuel-powered vehicles that have received much attention are those that use plant-derived fuels. 38.1 percent of the respondents think that plant-derived fuels will replace fossil fuel Which we are so dependent on today. Great Britain motorists show their strong support to the use of plant derived fuels with 45.6 percent of them giving their nod to these kinds of vehicles. The positive acceptance of respondents in Great Britain may be in fact due to the availability of cars in the European market Which are powered by plant derived bio-fuel like ethanol. Bio-ethanol after all can already be used to power vehicles like some models by Volvo with FlexiFuel technology onboard.

Of all respondents polled by PULS, only 11.5 percent said the world still depend on gasoline or diesel for our fuel. In general however, the survey result shows how the huge demand for vehicles running on alternative fuels or depend on renewable sources of energy.
